A Fireproof Life

Living a FIREPROOF life for the everlasting, almighty GOD of the UNIVERSE

I cbs writing so much so dot points here I come:

  • Early morning run…didn’t time correctly, ended up showering late and had to run all the way to uni. Couldn’t find the room.
  • Kept yawning during tute and making Mel yawn after me, hehe
  • Tried to complete psych prac…kept getting distracted and procrastinating
  • Walked to Dental Science lecture…in nice new room!! But Peter Wilson kept going on about course structure and ended up not doing his original lecture…yay!!
  • Tried to do more psych, can’t. Running again after dinner…then me and Melissa went to “room beside dining hall” to muck around (i.e. random sit-ups and running around like idiots). Talked to Sarah, Harri and Henry who were trying to study.
  • Spent the night dancing, playing the air guitar and finishing question 2 for assessment.

Walked to the station (about 25mins) to meet Melissa and went to uni together. We were both really sleepy and could hardly keep our eyes open but Yan sitting next to me was awake and actually taking in the lecture. They both came over to study, which went okay for a while but we got distracted easily. Hunger came upon us and we decided to grab some food from the halls. After lunch we could not focus and chatted for ages.

Later, Yan wanted to go to the public health lecture but I didn’t cuz it was too hot and Melissa had a house inspection to attend. We persuaded Yan to stay and not go promising that we would do work. However, we didn’t get any work done, its mostly because we didn’t understand it, and ended up forgetting about Melissa’s house inspection…sigh. So, being off task already, we proceeded to muck around, playing spit (the card game) and Melissa chucking cards while I caught them. Also we had an arm wrestling contest…my right arm is strong but my left is useless.

I had dinner at the halls…chicken parma dish, it was quite nice I reckon. Melissa and Yan had CC and later we went for a run, 5 laps up and down the street. Also went to listen to Nhat play the piano, he’s a super pro being able to sight-read and play. He taught me how to play “You are my sunshine” on the piano, which was cool. We decided to continue studying and after a short shower, Nhat, Melissa and Yan came over to ‘study’. The beginning was fine but later we all could not be bothered studying and ended up just talking. They left at about 2am. Sigh…the uni experience.

Melissa left early as did me and Yan for the First Aid course. Once again the 1st aid room was boiling and I couldn’t stay awake cuz of the late night. The lecturer kinda asked me random questions which I couldn’t answer cuz I was sooo sleepy. Lunch at Grace’s orde house, except I bought my meat pie and just had to warm it up. I just passed the test, and am now have a level 2 in first aid, haha…I hope that I can use it someday.

Yan came back to my house to study. Quite effective studying session as we were concentrating. Dinner follow and we did more study after that. I reckon studying in groups is really helpful as we used our dentition model to help us. I got a 47/50 for my assessment and thought it was good until I found out most people got 48 and 49 and some got 50’s. We also looked through our photos, and laughed ourselves to death. Later walked back to Mills Halls to keep Yan company, hmmm, haha.

We both did something really bad and crappy to someone else. I so wasn’t thinking when I did it and later that night I felt so bad. I thought it was okay at the time but then when the person found out I felt like the worst friend ever. If she’s reading this right now, I am sooo sorry, that was really immature and I didn’t consider the possible consequences of my actions. I didn’t sleep much that night, about 2 hours, coz I had the guilt feeling and was crying badly. Later, the person forgave me and that made me think. The ones that are really your friend are the ones that easily forgive and forget even when you stuff up badly. I am so grateful that I have that person as a friend and once again, I am really sorry, and I’m glad things between us are fine now.

Woke up by a knock on my window, I guess I hit the snooze button too many times. Halls people woke me up and we nice to wait for me while I changed etc.

First Aid: It was sooo boring. It was pretty much common sense with addition info. I guess I did learn a few things, but Damian said that he’ll probably let someone else do the CPR haha. The room was boiling hot and the guy kept going on about all his work related incidents, it seems like he’s broken so many bones in his body. CPR was pretty fun, especially when you push air into the dummy’s mouth and its chest rose, haha. Went to Grace’s orde house for lunch. We cook and ate noodles and also ice cream >> all thanks to Grace for providing the lunch. The afternoon session was more interesting as we were taught how to use the triangular bandage. Here are some pics:

Melissa and Yan came over for a while and mucked around, after playing with e-yore (aiya, i can't spell) and froggie at Yan's lol.

Henry’s House: The ‘gang’ decided to cook and eat dinner at Henry’s house, as the halls don’t supply food for the weekend. When us three got there, Sarah already began cooking. So as she and Radika were cooking, Melissa, Damian and I were using Yan’s Nitendo DS to play random games. Cooking mama provided lots of laugh especially when I started blowing into the microphone, both of them didn’t believe that the screen said to blow into the mic. Damian also kept killing the patient in the ‘operation’ game.

After eating (the food was yummy), we all played spin the bottle, mafia and poker. But before then, me and Melissa had our water dunking again. My clothes got very wet, and I hurt myself when I crashed into the tree, got heaps of scratches on my arm. When we got inside I think everyone thought we were crazy. Spin the bottle was fun but it quickly got personal lol. There were many glances and laughs when the bottle stopped at certain people.

Mafia was okay but Melissa and I lost all our chips in the second round of poker when we decided to bluff Ken and Grace. I think we pushed it too far and they didn’t believe us. Owell, when we got out, we had cookies and cream ice cream cravings. So we decided to use Henry’s blender to blend vanilla and choc ice cream with biscuits. The problem was that there were no biscuits and we ended up making milo ice cream, which was surprisingly nice. Later, all of us walked Gracey home and on the way we took a photo of us laying on the road (like the scene from ‘the notebook’, except without traffic lights). Later we played a few games of bridge before heading off home.

As Melissa was going back to Melbourne the following day and her room was boiling, she decided to sleep over. The next day, I told Ken about Melissa’s sleepover but it came out like this “Melissa was feeling hot so she came to sleep with me” lol. I didn’t realise how bad the sentence sounded. After we both watched the middle 1/3 of Chuck and Larry (we can never seem to finish the movie!!), we decided to muck around on the internet. And we ended up talking to Ken for ages on msn, we decided to call it quits at about 4am. Later, we chatted on random things and decided to sleep but could because we kept randomly hitting each other with pillow and ended up having some sort of pillow fight. Finally went to sleep at about 5am.

Morning: Went house hunting with Melissa very early. Took a long walk, talked about…u know girls stuff and other random stuff. We went to the wrong house by accident and had to walk almost halfway back. Nothing like a good morning walk and talk lol. After we saw one house, and missed one, I went to get an icy-pole whilst Melissa got a cold drink. Melissa dropped by my house and whilst we waited for the next housing appointment, we watched a movie and relaxed, using the A/C again. Lunch was lasagne which took us a long time to cook. We ended up not going to the afternoon house thingy.

Yan was still sleeping when we went to the movies with ‘the gang’. We saw 10,000BC and Melissa and I could not stop laughing. Grace said that we made an action movie sound like a comedy flick. But I think we were high on the coke and kept throwing popcorn at each other. The movie was okay, not as good as anticipated but the graphics were good. Later, we played arcade games and Sarah got a jackpot, winning about 270 tickets and got us all mini playing cards and stickers for Damian (lol). Ken and Harri spent so much playing the games, I hope they don’t go broke lol. We went for dinner at some viet/chinese restaurant. It was a really deserted restaurant. The guys ate so much, but us gals ate a lot of koropok (I don’t know what it is called in English). Whilst Henry drove the guys to dark zone first, Yan, Sarah, Melissa and I took random photos at the park (I mean, some kind of grass patch area).

Laserforce: Later, we all went gaming (except Radika and Grace) to “The Zone”. It was a 4-hr unlimited darkzone and arcade games Friday. Darkzone was fun as, there were heaps of game types. Detail:

Me vs Damian to see who would win, but Damian won every time, sigh.

Identifying Melissa by her teeth, cuz she was wearing dark colours but her smile was obvious.

Henry and I got owned for a long time, and we decided to run away.

Outside of laser force, we played arcade games, the racing cars etc. Whilst Ken and Harri went to race the go karts, my memory got tested, strange…I was pretty good. The ceilings were silver, the poles were blue and Damian’s hat says Quicksilver lol. Overall, the night was fun. Went midnight shopping for Saturday’s dinner at Henry’s house…bought so much, a lot of ice cream (Bendigo is forever hot!!)

Melissa finally arrives back from Hong Kong with a haircut and gift. Awww, thanks heaps Melissa for the gifts. Our prac was fun, yet again. Played around with the material too much, the class was making dinosaurs, snowmen and random animals with it as it was a quick setting playdoh material. Nhat’s dinosaur was sooo cool…I asked him if I could have it and he gave it to me!!! My snowman was corrupted and very disproportionate haha. The final batch of mini-models were taken away by the teacher cuz we wasted the material meant for the next group…whoops. My guitar, car and smiley face got taken away, noooo!! We begged Chris and Kyle to let us have it but they were mean. Grace’s mould was pretty cool but I decided to use the smelly mould. It came out pretty well, a bit like a mouth guard actually

.

My snowman and Nhat's dinosaur

Yan and Melissa came back with me to my house. We mucked around for a bit, using up the A/C!! It’s seems to be boiling everyday. Yan decided to take Tig (my soft toy) to uni for some strange reason. Embarassing haha. The public health tute was super boring, and pretty useless. I some how made the lecturer believe that Melissa is in our group haha. Grace, Yan, Melissa and I were pretty lost with some of the questions owell.

Yan/Me with Tig

The walk home (Me, Yan, Melissa and Anji)

Later, after dinner, we went on our daily run again, made it quite long. Went up to the uni again, its pretty fun going up the slope. Nothing beats running whilst music blares in your ear. On the way back, we met up with the basketball gang and played basketball. This time basketball was a bit more fun, more organised and more tactics. Once again, Trinh and Harri dominated but I scored a point from quite far away!! Haha, that was pretty cool lol. After bball, we all went to the dining room to have a drink and Melissa and me did something crazy. We decided to pour water over each other coz it was quite hot. So we did, I got soaked and so did she haha. Went over to Harri’s place to play bridge. I learnt how to play bridge…takes ages to learn but was awesome fun. After some other games like heart-attack and spoons, the gang came over to my house to play pool and enjoy the A/C.

Pretty much, everybody did what ever they wanted. The guys (Ken, Henry, Harri, Damian) and Sarah pretty much played pool for most of the time. Yan took a nap but got woken up by Melissa and me to muck around. Later, David Trinh came back from his nite out to join us, he got slightly hungry so he and Sarah cooked some hash browns for everyone to eat. Had a pillow fight against Damian, haha, he got owned by 3 girls lol. Everyone left at about 3 sumthing in the morning.

Interesting bridge game

No Clinical Practise lecture today, so virtually only have one lecture 2day (the boring public health lecture). I cannot explain how boring the psych lectures are, makes u wanna sleep.

Dessert outing: Alison decided that we should all go out for dessert. So, after dinner at the halls, we all went back to get dressed. Dave Trinh was previously going round asking everyone to dress formal. What?!? As if I brought anything formal to Bendigo. Haha. So wasn’t sure what to wear and decided on a skirt and top. When I met the group, most were in casual and then Trinh and a few others rocked up wearing formal haha. They actually looked quite nice. The dessert place was called “Match”, a place in the city. I was quite nice. It was pretty much a bonding time for the dentistry gang, with random arm wrestles, laughs and photos.

About half-way though, I got my nice rocky road cake slice (yummy!!) and did a swap with Henry, ended up sitting next to Harrison, Emad, Ken and Damian. They are one crazy bunch. Haha, when I asked Ken what he was eating, and, in his very Singapore accent said “Crap” rofl. He was supposed to say Crepes but it came out as crap rofl.

Pool: The carload home was Nhat, Doey (Andy Do), Yan and I. When we reached back at the halls, we decided to go for a short stroll as it was pretty early still. We ended up talking about stars and other random stuff. Later, as Nhat was asking about my house, I told him that I had a pool table. So, we decided to play pool at my house. Nhat teamed up with Yan, whilst I teamed up with Doey. Funny bits: Yan stabbing Nhat’s hands cuz he had to use his hands as the “directing” thingy for the stick to be placed on. Nhat’s crazy, disturbing and strange noises, an attempt at putting me off my mark. Yan hitting her teeth on the toaster thingy cuz she was laughing so hard. The game took so long to finish cuz we were pretty bad. Sigh, all in all, a fun night.

Running: Yan and I did our daily run but couldn’t get into the track. We needed some sort of card to access the tracks. So, having contemplated other options, we decided to run all the way to the uni. Damian called us anti-social for not joining the basketball lol. It is his famous phrase now. At first the run was easy but then it started to get tough as we hit Race St. We were virtually running on the spot as we crawled up the hill but it felt awesome when we reached the top. The return run was more interesting, procrastinating when to start running again.

Basketball: Hooray to one of the most active dentistry groups ever. Basketball is a regular agenda here and I must say, it is pretty fun. We had 3 groups of 4-5 and they were pretty even. Although I hardly play basketball, the guys were nice to pass me the ball at times. Hats off to David Trinh and Harri for their awesome “pro-like” effort. I reckon the girls did well too, esp Sarah.

Poker: Poker is awesome fun, especially when u get pros like David Trinh, Damian and Harrison. They are soo hardcore and I felt like such a noob around them, even if I’ve played poker before. At first we were in the dining room but kept making so much noise, we were told to move somewhere else. We ended up going to pryor annex (harri’s place) to continue playing. The final battle was between D.Trinh+Me and Ken+Harri, as we were playing in teams. In the end we won!!! Woot. It was late so almost everyone walked me home (awwww…u guys are nice). My housemates had a party, so was kinda glad I wasn’t there >> I think they drank too much (but all were sound asleep when I got back).

Hall's navigator

What does it mean when you say you're friends? I realise what it means now...it means always sticking by them even when they stuff up. Being able to forgive is the hardest thing ever but a person that can truly forgive you (when you do the worst things) is a true friend. Sigh...here i am blogging at 3:25am, not being able to sleep at all.

So here I am back in Bendigo and I just finished an online assessment which takes ages, especially when it take you about a day to recap a one hour lecture (you’ll never guess how much lecturers can fit in one lecture).

Wednesday
The psych lecture, which was predicably boring (mostly because he goes through the topics way too fast) – but psych is interesting, just the surface but when you start to get into the nitty gritty, its tedious and filled with many names and historical events that shape our modern psychology. So, after the lecture, a walking “halls” group crawled our way back to the prison cells (as it is commonly referred to). An afternoon of light reading (more like, reading and msn haha) and sport (we kinda played everything from tennis to basketball to the good old 2-square – Damien has so been secretly practising, I reckon), we headed off to pizza hut for Melissa’s birthday dinner. While waiting for Henry to come back to fetch us, we decided to sit on the concrete (strange but it felt okay at the time) and relax. It seemed like we were protesting, literally sitting on the driveway of the halls, whilst passer-bys (mainly people that finished dinner) gave us quizzical looks. All we needed were signs that said “Set us free” haha.

Melissa’s birthday dinner/bowling
Okay, I’m gonna write dot points from now on, don’t deny it, u blog readers love dot points rite?? Instead of essays type posts…

  • Pizza Hut for dinner: Radika, Yan, me, Melissa, Henry, Sarah, Grace and Thu
  • Ate heaps and heaps (Grace says more than Janice but that’s a close call), pizza was nice and so was the macaroni.
  • Cake, yum yum
  • Grace’s so called ESL language was hilarious: in lecture, Grace pronounced enamel as animal and it took me and Henry a long time to work out why Grace was talking about animals in dent class rofl. And then at the party, she called the chocolate mousse something along the lines of “meuls” lol. We were laughing our heads of. Grace, you’re cool and funny!!
  • Aww…Mel’s first official b’day party and it was nice to celebrate it with her. Her pressie was a cute (x100) sesame street jumper.
  • Pictures!! Lol

  • And…drum roll, the moment I will never forget >> Melissa’s prank call. Details:
Sigh, as she found out, I am a gullible person. So she decided to prank/trick me, as she’s done sooo many times in the past few weeks. Henry drove the first batch of people (inc Melissa) to bowling and me, Grace and Yan were left at pizza hut to fend for ourselves. As we were talking about how we ended up in Bendigo, I receive a call from Melissa. She goes to explain the situation > Henry’s car has a flat > they are stuck at Halls > we’ll have to call a cab to get back > they can’t seem to fix the flat.
All Grace and Yan hear is “What?!?!” and “You are stuck at halls? We’re stuck at pizza hut” and “Are you sure you’re not kidding?”.
She was utterly convincing and even mentioned that I should ask Radika, which I believed. So after minutes of panic, she started laughing hard, sigh…another trap. Haha, I still laugh thinking about it!!
  • Bowling was random…the people next to us were at 100 and they were only half way through. Our highest score (at the end) was 80sumthing. I kinda “flew” lol, like Melissa did. Radika started talking about songs, yay!!
  • We all went home kinda on a high and totally random…it was late but almost everyone still went online to chat lol.

Thursday

  • Early start for prac class >> talk about everyone joining our prac group. The was about ¾ of the dent people, only supposed to be half. Owell, it was fun anyways.
  • I love prac, so much fun and messy.
  • Played with cement thingy. Ooh made a maxillary (upper teeth) mould…it turned our great!!

  • After made a zillion calls to arrange for a cab to take us to the train station to go HOME!!
  • Train: fun, laughter and songs. Grace and I kidnapped Melissa’s ipod, Radika shared random songs (she likes Teenagers too, wow!), Thu went to sleep half way through and Melissa decided to tie my shoes together using many different knots, which took ages to untie lol. Sigh…joys of train rides.

Friday

  • Went to officeworks to photocopy stuff, went a bit nuts in there > no customers, only me and Grace talking and laughing
  • oh, the walk to the glen station was funny as. We went out of officeworks and it started to spit so we put on our hoods. So imagine 2 people with hoods on and slippers carefully and slowly walking down springvale road >> we looked like homeless people lol. And then Grace’s slipper broke. So we were contemplating what to do. At the end, I decided to take off my slippers with her and we will both walk to the train station barefooted while it was raining, adding to our authentic “hobo” look lol. We almost met up with Brian and Victor , which would be embarrassing. Strange day.
  • More study

Saturday/Sunday

  • Kids church, yay…nice to be back with the awesome kids church team
  • Awesome message, God’s been doing a number of cool and faith building things the past week!!
  • Relax and …. Study
  • Went to Bendigo on sun nite with Grace
  • Sun night: Went on msn and talked with Yan. We got extremely bored so we decided to communicate with each other in a more old fashion way. As we can both see each other’s window (from across the road) we flashlighted each other though our window. So funny. Blink blink blink rofl.

Monday

  • Met with the “gang” which was just the dent guys. As I was walking they started talking about kangaroos and wrestling, so I said that it was too violent then they changed to talking about ponies lol. Sigh…until I saw Yan so that I can have a proper conversation without kangaroos and boxing and car wrestling.
  • Nice and short oral health lecture
  • Walked back and grabbed some food from the halls
  • David Trinh and Yan came over to see my room and we ended up talking about random things for like 2 hours. David missed his lunch lol.
  • Public health lecture was surprisingly okay, and Mackay lecture has finally upgraded with an aircon!!!
  • Went to dinner at halls. Talked with a random guy asking me and Yan all these halls related questions (Yan did fine, but I don’t stay in halls). Actually, my responses were okay hehe. He ended up being the ressie halls team leader (scary!!) Dinner was nice, yummy!
  • Sneaked off back to house ooh and studied for the assessment task, which decided to crash half-way through (some sort of maintenance thingy)
  • Did the flashlight thingy with Yan again. Haha its funny everytime I do it.
  • Slept late

Today

  • Met the girls and walked to Uni, short but partially confusing lecture.

Well, that’s my week so far. Gonna eat soon>> halls here I come hehe

Do you know that song...la la la there will be miracles, if you believe? Well, even though it is not really a christian song, it does make sense. I heard somewhere that u really have to believe something is gonna happen when you pray to God for a miracle. Okay, I'll explain everything. My laptop kinda died on me yesterday morning, the screen wouldn't appear and there was no response (yes, my power cord was plugged in and turned on). I got soo worried and scared cuz its a new laptop and i didn't want it to die, and i kinda need it for uni work. So i immediately prayed to God, hoping that he'll do a miracle on my laptop. For a while i tried to get it to work and then gave up. But when i got home just now, I read the bible and i read a verse that taught me to believe in God. Deciding to try again and believing, i got a super shock!! The little thing decided to work. Now everything is fine and working well, praise the Lord. Well it seems like God is really trying to test my faith in him, God has the whole world in his hands but he is always keeping an eye out for you. So lesson for the day: put your whole faith in God and prepare to witness some of his awesomeness when you pray!!

Anyways, the past two days have been kinda hectic. Tuesday morning i woke up late and missed my tutorial group. I must have pressed the snooze button one too many times and woke up at 9:30am. My tute started at 9am, hmph...lol. So, that was dramatic and then i decided to crash the other group's tute and everyone but the lecturer noticed, that's okay. Its funny seeing people's faces when they find out i slept in. Also, nearly missed lecture today and went to the wrong building haha. I found someone who runs here as well, except she does it in the evening rather than in the morning, which is normally when I run.

Yesterday night I had pizza, coke and icecream from the landlord and it was pretty much a pizza and movie night. Ohh and today for our clinical practice class, our lecturer played the PCK singapore SARS ad (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_OPsfAhXUSE). It was so funny >> me and Grace laughed ourselves to death. I can't believe my lecturer showed us that, its so malaysian and i don't think the class really understood it as much as grace and I. It was hilarious. It was mainly cuz the music video explained how to stop the spread of viruses and that was our main topic for the lecture. Nevertheless, it was funny and different.

anyways, have to meet Yan, Melissa, Radika and Sarah soon >> to walk to uni for our 3pm psych lecture. Rach out 4 now.

I promise i will blog about my awesome 3 month holiday soon but for now its all Bendigo. So I'll just recap day1week2 of uni life in rural Bendigo.

Woke up today at 4am, ah, the joys of monday morning train rides. So tired considering that I slept at about 1am. I did a heap of last minute packing (tried many find a way to package Janice's paper ball thingy) and stuffed all the food i could find in typical asian tofu containers. Caught the 4:59am train to Southern Cross station, but was kinda angry cause the vline agent at glen waverley was not open so had to spend an additional $3+ to get a card to southern cross (which would normally be covered under the vline ticket). Coincidentally met Melissa at Southern Cross, just before I was about to call her (lol Melissa - memories of today haha). We sat around for a bit doing nothing then met Radika and boarded the train.

Train ride was, ermm, sleepy. Us three practically slept the whole way which was vastly different to the wednesday night train back (ohh the memories of wed night - fence...cow...tree, oh and did you know the further object that a person can see, with 20/20 vision is 500km - Sharon's random fact - one of her million random facts). We saw the sun rise, black darkness and heaps of people at Castlemaine. When we reached bendigo we quickly caught the next bus to the uni.

Hours of oral health lectures followed and i was confused, i mean, even reading the powerpoint notes is hard enough let alone understanding what it meant (i.e. the fossae on the distal surface is blah blah, i can't remember). But i kinda got the hang of it after a while and it got interesting. I learnt this today >> what you see is definately not what you get. My explaination >> every single micro-point on each tooth has a name!! Each minuscule dip and bump has a specific name and its is our job to identify them. After Ben's lecture (Grace and i noticed today that in uni you seem to call your lectures by their first name, not their last name - like in high school ... strange) a few of us went somewhere (cannot reveal yet until wed night) and did something.

So...anyhoo, went back to halls to muck around a bit >> scabbed free lunch from halls people, talked and stuff in Sarah's room (who's from the land of many "baa baa" - rofl Melissa), tennis with Nhat, Henry and ____ (i forgot his name) and watched Damien play hard core rock on the piano!! Lecture at Mackay was okay but we were craving for ice cream. So before LARHC meeting started, we went to buy ice cream, which virtually melted when we got outside as its super hot! After LARHC, the car back to halls was crazy. I think that there is something wrong with a certain someone >> gone a bit nuts. but then again the entire day has been a bit nutty.

So here i am typing away when I should be doing some study. I wonder where Grace is, has she finished her CC thingy yet?? owell, there is always tomorrow to look forward to. And sat nite was fun! hehe, Rach out.
